The 2026 China Yangtze River Delta Sino-US Science and STEM Education Conference, coupled with the US Teacher of the Year Program in Anhui, was held in Wuhu on July 10. Co-hosted by the Anhui Institute of Educational Science and the Wuhu municipal education bureau, the event brought together over 160 educators, researchers and teachers from China and the US. With the theme "Science Education Practices for Teacher and Student Development," the conference featured classroom demonstrations, case studies, on-site observations and panel discussions.

In the morning, participants observed a STEM demonstration class on magnetic fields and field lines at Wuhu No 1 High School. They then exchanged views on improving science education in high schools, developing regional STEM programs, teacher evaluation reform, AI-enabled classroom assessment and the professional development of teaching researchers, sharing cutting-edge approaches from both countries.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited Yijiang Primary School to observe integrated science and STEM classes. Guided by a bilingual student host team from Wuhu No 11 Middle School, they toured the citywide science education exhibition, the immersive Science Fair micro-classroom and the Yijiang District Science Education Practice Center, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how Wuhu has built a distinctive science education system drawing on local industry, culture and campus resources.

Following the tour, teachers from both countries discussed school-based curriculum development, project-based learning, diversified classroom assessment and cross-regional teaching research collaboration, sharing best practices and learning from each other.

The event served as a platform for advancing science education cooperation in the Yangtze River Delta and facilitating exchanges between Chinese and US educators. It also showcased Wuhu's achievements in building a comprehensive science education system and will help boost the city's innovation-driven education and broaden the global outlook of its teachers and students.
