Wuhu GDP grows 6.0% year-on-year in first half

Wuhu's gross domestic product (GDP) reached 278.16 billion yuan in the first half of 2026, up 6.0 percent year-on-year at constant prices, according to the municipal bureau of statistics. The primary industry's added value was 5.22 billion yuan, up 2.7 percent; the secondary industry's added value was 129.71 billion yuan, up 5.5 percent; and the tertiary industry's added value was 143.23 billion yuan, up 6.5 percent.
Agriculture maintained steady growth, with summer grain harvest exceeding last year's. The total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery reached 10.34 billion yuan in the first half, up 3.0 percent year-on-year. Summer grain output totaled 227,600 tons, up 1.8 percent. The output of vegetables and aquatic products increased by 3.8 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively, while poultry eggs and meat output edged down.
Industrial production grew at a solid pace, with emerging industries maintaining strong momentum. The added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 10.5 percent year-on-year in the first half. Mining, manufacturing, and electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply all registered growth. Among 37 major industrial categories, 28 recorded increases in added value, with automotive manufacturing growing 22.4 percent. The output value of strategic emerging industries increased 16.9 percent, with new energy vehicles and high-end equipment manufacturing rising 17.0 percent and 15.0 percent, respectively. The output of service robots surged 3.9-fold, while new energy vehicles and electronic components increased 80.0 percent and 21.3 percent.
The service sector continued its steady expansion, with modern services gaining momentum. The added value of the service industry increased 6.5 percent year-on-year in the first half, with finance, wholesale and retail, and accommodation and catering growing 8.3 percent, 8.0 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively. From January to May, service enterprises above designated size reported improved performance, with leasing and business services revenue up 15.2 percent and information transmission, software and information technology services revenue up 23.7 percent.
Fixed-asset investment was generally stable, with industrial investment growing at a faster pace. Fixed-asset investment in the first half declined 1.1 percent year-on-year, but rose 0.7 percent after excluding real estate development. Investment in the primary industry increased 14.7 percent, the secondary industry 7.6 percent, and the tertiary industry declined 9.4 percent. Industrial investment grew 7.3 percent, technological upgrading investment 14.0 percent, and high-tech manufacturing investment 35.2 percent.
Consumer spending continued to expand, while foreign trade maintained rapid growth. Total retail sales of consumer goods reached 107.7 billion yuan in the first half, up 1.8 percent year-on-year. Retail sales of grain, oil and food, beverages, smartphones, and cultural and office supplies all recorded growth. Online retail sales of wholesale and retail enterprises above designated size increased 8.6 percent. Total imports and exports reached 127.97 billion yuan, up 55.2 percent, of which exports amounted to 112.81 billion yuan, up 64.9 percent.
Fiscal and financial operations remained stable, with residents' income growing steadily. General public budget revenue reached 22.86 billion yuan in the first half, up 3.1 percent, while expenditure totaled 31.11 billion yuan, up 4.5 percent. By the end of June, the balance of deposits in local and foreign currencies at financial institutions stood at 877.23 billion yuan, up 6.1 percent, and outstanding loans at 827.89 billion yuan, up 12.1 percent. The consumer price index increased 0.9 percent year-on-year. Per capita disposable income reached 27,481 yuan, up 5.7 percent.
